Pringles Jumps On The Smartspeaker Craze With SB Creative
You know a new technology has officially entered the cultural zeitgeist when its featured in a Super Bowl ad. This is exactly the moment smartspeakers find themselves in right now, and Pringles is capitalizing on this connected home craze in their new commercial set to air in the big game.
To pre-promote the commercial Kellogg’s creative agency Grey has released a series of :06 teaser ads depicting a forlorn smartspeaker who feels left out because it can’t taste Pringles chips. The teasers are sort of humorous, but Grey is obviously saving their best punch lines for the full commercial. What’s interesting from a media professional’s perspective is that smartspeakers are now such a part of our shared in-home experience that they can matter-of-factly play a character in creative intended to reach the largest mass audience of the year.
You might recall during last year’s Super Bowl Amazon spoofed Alexa’s voice tryouts in its ad. That creative made perfect sense since Amazon is manufacturing and selling Echo smartspeakers in the first place. Now just one year later even a potato chip brand has jumped on the smartspeaker bandwagon.
