Predictions On The Future Of Music Marketing
The way music is brought to market is changing as much as the distribution platforms songs are heard on. To help sort out the changing dynamics to the back end of the biz Musically has compiled a list of the top five trends in digital music marketing for 2018.
Two points in particular stand out to me. First is the shifting of responsibilities between an artist’s label and manager. Back in the day labels used to do everything except for the coordination of travel logistics which was left to the road buddy manager. In contrast today’s managers are increasingly responsible for the artist’s digital brand and social footprint. As a result musicians are becoming less dependent on their labels.
Another important trend is YouTube’s ramped up promotion of artists. For years the video pub has been one of the top music distributors, but musicians received relatively small royalty payouts and no real promotion. But thanks to the relaunch of YouTube Music earlier this year we’re starting to see Artist Spotlight promotions, which help with music discovery to a vast new audience.
No doubt about it, the entire industry is changing. This list is a good way to help you keep up with the changes.
