What’s On Marketers’ Minds?
At the half-way point of 2018 eMarketer commissioned a study to find out what advertisers are most concerned about right now. Here’s a quick summary of what brands are thinking about:
- The power a Google-Facebook duopoly wields in the digital marketplace is still a concern for 42% of respondents.
- Amazon’s domination of retail shot up the charts with 33% of respondents flagging it as a concern. (Interestingly, Amazon could either be viewed as an ally, since it’s a way for brands to buy around the duopoly’s dominance, or become yet another evil empire walled garden marketers must cope with.)
- GDPR’s reverberations can also be seen in this survey with 33% of respondents voicing concern over user privacy and ad-blocking restrictions.
- It’s notable that brands are thinking about Voice (33%) more than Video (32%), which is a direct reflection of the proliferation in AI-driven IoT connected devices. (This next gen of tech doesn’t have screens or keyboards, so Voice commands and audio ads are becoming the new UI ecosystem marketers need to master.)
