Gary V Goes Off At Ad Week
Let’s start with a full disclosure – I’m a big fan of Gary “Gary V” Vaynerchuk. His forward thinking is razor sharp and he’s not shy about expressing his views, which usually include a few F-bombs sprinkled in for good measure. With all that pent up energy, it should be so surprise that Gary V let loose on the major digital publishers in front of a packed house at one of the Ad Week sessions yesterday.
His main target of yesterday’s rant was Google, with its over-dependence on old school display ad revenue. Per Mr. V, “No normal person wants a banner ad to take over their entire fucking phone, because when you try to click the X, you miss it and get on the site anyway.” On other side of the coin he was very complimentary of a certain eComm giant. “Amazon will be destroying everyone’s face,” Vaynerchuk said. “They’re outrageously pro-customer. That company has done so much right it’s uncomfortable.” Gary V also had some kind words for Facebook’s ad model, despite their ongoing data leak scandals. But you have to take his view on FB with a grain of salt, since he was an early investor in Zuckerberg’s dream.
Regardless of whether you share Gary V’s opinions on these pubs or not, he definitely did what he could to liven up Ad Week.
