Checkout Glitch Strikes APD . . . Again
If you’re an online retailer you think you’d be laser focused on allowing your customers to add items to their carts when they’re ready to make a purchase. And you’d especially be prepared for consumers to make those purchases on the biggest day of your retail calendar, right? However that wasn’t the case yesterday when a tech glitch struck Amazon just as Amazon Prime Day was getting started.
For two hours yesterday morning customers were not able to add items to their carts. The functionality was restored by 1:30p ET yesterday, but you can imagine how many purchase opportunities were missed before then. Amazingly, this is the second year in a row Amazon had a tech problem during APD – last year the entire site went down for 75 minutes as their servers struggled to keep up with volume.
Yes, Amazon will probably still pull off another record Amazon Prime Day this year. You just think they’d have all the bugs worked out by now.
